Topeka, Kan. (WIBW)_ A Kansas group is pushing Topeka city council members to ask legislators to make it illegal for them to live near schools.
On Tuesday, "Kansas Rights 4 Kids" told city council members that it is illegal for sex offenders to live near schools in 33 states, but not in Kansas.
Some city council members seemed to support the idea.
State legislators debated this several years ago, but the measure died over fears that, if it is illegal for offenders to live near schools, they would get fake addresses. Legislators believed that would make it difficult for authorities to track them.
"Kansas Rights 4 Kids" plans to speak to other city councils.
