Kansas Law

The current law
states that the State of Kansas has no law in place to mandate where an offender  can or cannot live, nor does Kansas Law allow for local jurisdictions to have such laws.

The law we want would mandate that a child sex offender can not live within 2000 feet of a school, daycare center or park.

Who we are.  We are a group of parents in Olathe, KS that discovered a convicted child molester had moved a mere 200 feet from the elementary school where our children attend.

What happened.  Nothing!  Yes that is right nothing happened when said perpetrator moved into his new home.  At least nothing happened with the city or state.  Lucky for us a parent religiously checks the KBI website for sex offenders in their neighborhood and notified other parents.

What we discovered.  We discovered that the Kansas law regarding convicted sex offenders is obsolete.  We also discovered that there was nothing we could do about the law or the perpetrator.  Finally, we discovered that the state where the predator moved from had different laws regarding where sex offenders  can live.  The distance was significant and had the judge known this predator was moving out of state he may have sentenced him to longer than 4 months in prison or put a limit on his housing status.

What you can do to help our mission.  We have been contacting all the Kansas Representatives we can find to help us change the current law.  You can help too.  Please write a letter to your local and state Representatives and asking them to support our cause and help change the law.  You can also join our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter to show your support.

Please take some time to view all the pages on our site to learn more about what we are doing and what you can do to protect your children.

Thank you for your interest in what we are doing,
